Reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars climbed to the top of the standings following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over newly promoted Warri Wolves at the Ikenne International Stadium.
The breakthrough came in the 77th minute when striker Samson Olasupo struck the decisive goal, securing Remo Stars’ second win of the season. They now sit level on seven points with Wikki Tourists, who also recorded a slim 1-0 triumph over Abia Warriors.
Across Week 3, the NPFL’s home-ground advantage was once again on display. Katsina United edged rivals Kano Pillars 1-0 in the Northwest Derby, Kwara United beat promoted Kun Khalifat 2-0, Niger Tornadoes downed Bayelsa United 1-0, and Enugu Rangers registered a 2-0 victory against Plateau United.
But there were also stalemates. The Southwest Derby saw Shooting Stars frustrated in a 1-1 draw with Ikorodu City, while continental heavyweights Enyimba and Nasarawa United cancelled each other out in a tense 0-0 clash.
With three rounds completed, Remo Stars and Wikki Tourists share the summit on seven points apiece. Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves remain close contenders with six points each, despite their setbacks. At the other end, Kun Khalifat, Barau FC, and Kano Pillars struggle in the lower places, while Plateau United sit bottom, still searching for their first points of the season.
