The Uganda Premier League (UPL) has officially announced adjustments to its fixture schedule as preparations intensify for AFCON 2025 and the upcoming national elections. The decision aims to minimise disruptions to the domestic league while ensuring clubs, players, and officials can meet national and continental obligations.

Planning Around Major Events

League administrators confirmed that the revised calendar is designed to accommodate players expected to be called up for international duty. With several UPL stars likely to represent their countries at AFCON, the rescheduling allows clubs to manage squad availability more effectively during the tournament period.

Ensuring League Continuity

The national elections also played a role in the decision, with concerns around logistics, security, and travel influencing match planning. By adjusting fixtures early, the UPL hopes to avoid last-minute postponements and maintain a smooth flow of competition during a busy period.

Officials emphasised that balancing domestic football with international commitments such as AFCON requires proactive coordination and flexibility.

Clubs Given Adequate Notice

UPL clubs have been informed in advance, giving coaching staff time to plan training schedules, player rotation, and travel arrangements. The league believes this approach will reduce competitive imbalance and protect the integrity of the championship race.

Supporters have largely welcomed the move, viewing it as a sign of improved organisation within the league structure.

Focus on a Successful Season

With adjustments in place, attention now turns to delivering a competitive and uninterrupted season. The UPL remains committed to supporting national team participation at AFCON while safeguarding the interests of domestic football.

The revised schedule is expected to be finalised and communicated to all stakeholders in the coming weeks.
